The government has granted permission to an alliance of three companies to build a US$4.9-billion power complex in the central Vietnamese province of Binh Thuan.
International Power Plc from the UK, Japan's Sojitz and Hanoi-based Pacific Corporation will invest in the 3,600MW Son My Power Center Project, Deputy Minister Hoang Trung Hai said.
The Son My Power Center is a thermal power complex consisting of three plants with an targeted annual power output of 23.4 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
The project will be built on either a Build-Own-Operate or Build-Operate-Transfer model, according to the Binh Thuan Province Department of Industry and Trade.
The first generator will start running in 2015 and the project is scheduled for completion in 2018.
