A man in the southern province of Dong Nai was 1.90m tall at just 18 years old and reached a height of 2.03m at the age of 21, but strangely he has never stopped growing in height since then.

21-year-old D.T.D is believed to be the tallest-ever man in Vietnam. His school friends gave him the nickname Peter Crouch, England’s tallest football player, who stands at 2.01m.

Dr. Tran Quang Khanh at the Endocrinology Unit of Ho Chi Minh City-based Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital has diagnosed him with Gigantism, the consequence of which is abnormally large growth due to an excess of growth hormones caused by a 10mm benign tumor in the pituitary gland.

In addition to the abnormally gigantic height, his jaw bone is also damaged as a result of the rare condition.

Doctors at the hospital said that those with Gigantism often develop complications like diabetes, high blood pressure, and arthritis, among others.

For the disease, surgery is the treatment of choice, they added.

D. is expected to have his tumor operated on next week to prevent complications from developing.

D. rarely leaves home because he is afraid of what people will think if they see him.

"When I go out people look at me strangely and curiously and it makes me feel nervous about my appearance,” he said.

D. said he has difficulty sleeping and choosing clothes because he cannot find a “suitable size”.
