At 1:30 am yesterday local anti-drug police, along with their counterparts from the Ministry of Public Security, stopped a suspicious truck travelling southward to Hanoi on National Highway 6 in Long Luong Commune, Moc Chau District for examination.

The police found 42 cakes of heroin weighing about 15 kg in the vehicle. They were packed in black plastic bags and hidden in the bottom of two cartons containing fruits.

The driver, Song A Thenh, 41, of Pa Co Commune, Mai Chau District, Hoa Binh Province, was detained immediately, along with two mobile phones, VND800,000 (US$38) in cash and other items the police thought to be related to the trafficking.

Tenh confessed that he had bought the drugs from two unidentified people of the Mong ethnic group in Moc Chau and wanted to carry them to other provinces for sale.

One day before, July 3, the local police also seized a man, simply identified as Long, trafficking 89 cakes of heroin and 35,000 tablets of synthetic drugs in a truck in Chieng Ray Commune in Moc Chau.

The police are continuing investigation of the two large drug trafficking cases.
