The State President on Thursday in Hà Nội made public four new laws which were passed at the 7th session of the 12th National Assembly last month.

These laws relate to child adoption, food safety, criminal sentence enforcement and trade arbitration.

Ensuring maximum benefits for adoptive children

The Law on Child Adoption, consisting of five chapters, with 52 articles, clearly stipulates rights and obligations of child adopters and responsibilities of competent State offices.

Under the law, adoption process will be carried out in favor of legitimate rights of child adopters and adoptive children.

New provisions for food safety

The Law on Food Safety stipulates general criteria for food safety and specific conditions for some types of food like fresh food, processed food, and functional food.

Specially, the Law specifies regulations for ensuring food safety of street food.

According to the Law, food safety certificates will be valid within three years.

Using lethal injections in execution

The Law on Criminal Sentence Enforcement consists of 15 chapters with 182 articles. It clearly specifies the organization, tasks, and authority of competent agencies in charge of executing criminal sentences.

Especially, the Law paves the way for a more humane method of carrying out executions by using lethal injections instead of firing squads.

Clearer relations between arbitrators and judiciary branch

The Law on Trade Arbitration, 13 chapters and 82 articles, will be used as the source to adjust international trading contracts.

The first and fourth laws will take effect on January 1, 2011 and the rest two others will come into force on July 1, 2011.
