Dengue fever, hand-foot-mouth pandemic in HCMC

The Department of Health in Ho Chi Minh City has reported a very high increase in the numbers of patients with dengue fever and hand-foot-mouth disease this year.
HCMC reported around 2,658 patients with dengue fever and 2,315 with hand-foot-mouth disease, since the beginning of the year.
During the past week alone HCMC reported 128 patients with dengue fever and 211 patients with hand-foot-mouth disease, an increase of 17 and 14 more cases respectively, as compared to the previous week, though no fatalities were reported.
Binh Hung Commune in Binh Chanh District and Ward 16 in District 8 have reported a higher number of dengue fever patients this last week.
The HCMC Department of Health has asked the Preventive Health Care Centre in the City to find measures to prevent and control outbreaks of dengue fever and hand-foot- mouth disease in 24 of its Districts.
