Two teams from Vietnam’s FPT University entered the top ten of the ACM/ICPC (Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest) qualifying round for the Asian region, which took place in Phuket, Thailand from November 3-4.

The event attracted 60 strongest teams from Asian countries and territories, including nine teams from Vietnam, which were selected from the 84 participants at the 2011 ACM/ICPC Vietnam competition that took place at Can Tho University from October 5-8.
The nine teams came from Vietnam’s top IT training universities such as the Hanoi and HCM City Technology Universities, the University for Natural Sciences, FPT University, etc.
The champion is the team from Zhejiang University of China. Other teams in the top tens are also famous names in the region, such as Perking University (China), Hong Kong Technology University, Singapore National University, Nanyang Technology University (Singapore) and Chulalongkorn University (Thailand).
Two teams from Vietnam’s FPT University entered the top ten. Notably, FPT is a new university in Vietnam and it has participated in only four ACM/ICPC contests.
FPT University’s Rector Le Truong Tung said that the university aims to be among the top teams at the world final.
The next regional round will be held in Malaysia in mid-November. The global finale will take place in Poland in April 2012.
The Vietnamese representatives will join others from Asia to compete for the right to enter the world finals to be held from May 14-18, 2012, in Warsaw, Poland.
The ACM/ICPC is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world. It was launched in 1970. The event aims to foster creativity and innovation in building new software programs, and provides college students with the opportunity to demonstrate and sharpen their problem-solving and computing skills.
