Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tuyet, a headmistress at a high school in Gia Lai Province, may face dismissal for alleged embezzlement.

According to the Inspectorate of Gia Lai Provincial Department of Education and Training, Tuyet, headmistress of Le Loi High School in Pleiku City, unaccounted for payments during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 academic years. Fees paid by parents included a VND200,000 (USD9.5) collection from 400 Grade 12 students to support their graduation exams.

In 2011-2012 school year, the school collected 18 fees worth VND1.2 billion (USD57,526), but only 13 payments were accounted for in a report sent to the provincial Department of Education and Training. The payments included fees paid by 116 impoverished ethnic minority students.

After being detected, Tuyet initially denied the claims and continued to not comply with the inspectorate's requirement to return the money to the disadvantaged students.

Worse still, she was found continuing to try to garner support for her acts among Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, a senior teacher in Class 10C1. Ha was told to improve the grade of conduct by two students to help them change school.

Due to this string of misconduct, the school’s managing board held a meeting to discuss solutions.

They recommended disciplining Ha and the school’s accountant Nguyen Thi Mai.

Tuyet finally admitted to her misconduct and recommended she merely receive the same level of discipline her co-workers received. However, the school’s management board disagreed and are filing for her to be sacked.
