Dr. Pham Cao Thanh Tung from South Korea’s Sogang University is the first Vietnamese whose research work is published on the American Science AAAs journal.

Science AAAs is the academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is one of the world's top scientific journals.

The peer-reviewed journal, first published in 1880, is circulated weekly and has a print subscriber base of around 130,000. Because institutional subscriptions and online access serve a larger audience, its estimated readership is one million people.

The major focus of the journal is publishing important original scientific research and research reviews, but Science also publishes science-related news, opinions on science policy and other matters of interest to scientists and others who are concerned with the wide implications of science and technology.

Although it is the journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, membership in the AAAS is not required to publish in Science. Papers are accepted from authors around the world. Competition to publish in Science is very intense, as an article published in such a highly cited journal can lead to attention and career advancement for the authors. Fewer than 10 percent of articles submitted to the editors are accepted for publication and all research articles are subject to peer review before they appear in the journal.

Therefore, scientific research works that are published on this journal is very valuable and influential.

“It is the dream of any researcher to have their works published on Science journal so I’m very happy. That work is not the fruit of my own effort but of the entire group in the past three years,” Dr. Tung, 34, said.

Tung’s research focuses on Zeolit and its application in new material technology. The work is entitled “Growth of Uniformly Oriented Silica MFI and BEA Zeolite Films on Substrates.”

Tung graduated from the HCM City University of Natural Sciences in 1999. He got a master degree in 2002. Tung used to work at the Institute for Chemical Technology in HCM City from 2000 to 2006. From August 2006 he was a post-graduate student at the Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea. He received a Ph.D degree in August 2011. Since September 2011, Tung has been a post-doctoral researcher at this university.
