Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has paid working visits to three Baltic States: Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
During the visits from June 26 to July 3, Deputy FM Son held talks and met with leaders of the three countries’ foreign and economic ministries and friendly parliamentarians’ groups with Vietnam.
The Baltic States highlighted Vietnam’s achievements after 26 years of renewal and the country’s rising position in the world.
They agreed to bolster cooperation with Vietnam in international organisations and forums, especially within the framework of the UN and the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).
The three countries shared the same view with Vietnam in the settlement of disputes through peaceful means based on international laws, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
They also agreed to increase the exchange of high-ranking delegations with Vietnam to create an impetus in economics, trade, education-training, marine transport, information technology and labour.
Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania voiced their support on the early negotiation and signing of an agreement on visa exemptions for Vietnamese diplomatic passport holders.
The three countries also emphasised the necessity to negotiate with Vietnam agreements on economic, double taxation avoidance, tourism, education and training cooperation.
