The department also forecast that the city’s registered jobless rate this year would rise by 15-20 percent compared to 2011.
Last year, HCMC accounted for as much as 30 percent of the country’s total unemployment. It was followed by Binh Duong and Dong Nai Provinces, the Employment Department under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Socials reported.
The number of people registering their unemployed status nationwide in 2011 was 335,000 higher than in 2010, or an increase of 77 percent, the department said.
Jobless people were mainly located in large provinces and cities, where many industrial parks and export processing zones are located, the agency added.
