Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the establishment of a fund to support residents and coast guards in Truong Sa (Spratly) Island District off the central province of Khanh Hoa.
The fund aims to improve spiritual and material conditions for soldiers, government officials, and local people in Truong Sa, the PM’ decision signed on April 19 said.
The PM charged the Ministry of Defense with the task of setting up a steering board to run the fund, which will raise money from Vietnamese and foreign donors.
Spratly Island District is part of an area in the East Sea claimed by both Vietnam and China.
