This is due to Military Zone 9’s search teams working tirelessly over six months, during the provinces dry season in 2011-2012.
When addressing the ceremony, Chhun Sirun, the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Special Envoy and also governor of Kandal province, expressed his deeply felt gratitude to Vietnam , its volunteers and people for helping the country to overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot Regime.
He said that working with Vietnam to search, exhume and repatriate the remains of martyrs is a responsibility and obligation for Cambodia ’s people at every level.
Since 2000, the two countries have discovered and reburied 14,510 sets of remains found in Cambodia . Of them, 914 were found in Kandal province.
