The Vietnamese Government encourages localities to actively study experiences of developing sustainable urban models and managing modern urban areas.
Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai made the statement on July 10 in Hanoi, at an international seminar “Sustainable cities - challenges and opportunities”, held by the Construction Ministry, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Siemens Group.
Like in many developing countries, Vietnam’s urban areas are facing numerous challenges like soaring population, widening rich-poor gap, unreasonable planning, wasteful energy use, weak infrastructure, and polluted environment.
In response, the Vietnamese Government attaches importance to sustainable economic development, combining growth and environment protection.
Deputy PM Hai hoped that experts and managers would put forth more ideas and solutions regarding forecast, design, planning and construction in support of sustainable, prosperous urban areas in Vietnam.
