More than 7,500 households in Thanh Hoa Province are living in areas more vulnerable to natural disasters because of limitations in the provincial relocation budget.

The local People’s Committee has approved 11 resettlement projects in the flood-porne districts to move 8,169 households to safer aces. These projects would cost a total of VND369.97 billion (USD17.6 million).
However, due to the province’s financial difficulties, only five of the projects have been implemented: the districts of Muong Lat, Quan Hoa, Ba Thuoc, Cam Thuy and Nhu Xuan. This leaves more than 7,500 households in need of viable relocation plans.
More than VND200 billion (USD9.52 million) is still needed to carry out the remaining projects in for this year.
The provincial People’s Committee will seek financial aid from the Government for the project. The limited amount of assistance available to locals has slowed down the resettlement process.
