HCM City buildings allocated new door numbers

Around 100,000 addresses are set to be changed in HCM City starting next month, with buildings getting door numbers in proper chronological order, to make it easier for people to find them.

Most addresses to be changed under the bill to be placed before the HCM City People's Committee are in Districts 7, 9, 12, Binh Tan and Go Vap, where the numbers are chaotic and do not follow any logical system.

The draft law will also apply to new residential areas where buildings have yet to come up.

If the draft is approved, the Department of Construction will provide guidelines for district agencies to complete the task within two years.

District people's committees will be responsible for communicating the new numbers to relevant agencies like the police, post office, and electricity and water supply companies for updating their records.

Even after the new numbers come into effect, the old numbers will also be displayed just below to make it easier for people.

They have to be written in an identical manner outside buildings to ensure consistency.

Since 1998, the city has issued or changed numbers for more than 1.2 million houses, according to the Department of Construction.
