Three major roads in HCM City will be named after three late leaders, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, high-ranking general Mai Chi Tho and Professor Tran Van Giau.

This road will be named after late general Mai Chi Tho.
The HCM City People’s Committee has asked the municipal People’s Council to consider name Tan Son Nhat – Binh Loi road (which is expected to open for traffic in 2014), which runs from Go Vap district to Thu Duc district after the name of late PM Nguyen Van Dong.
The name of late general Mai Chi Tho (former Minister of Home Affairs, Party Secretary and Chairman of HCM City) is proposed to give to the road in district 2, part of the East-West avenue project which opened for traffic last November.
The city authorities also wanted to name a road that runs from Binh Chanh to Binh Tan district, which will be ready for traffic in late 2012 after the name of late Prof. Tran Van Giau, who was a People’s Teacher, Labor Hero, former Party Secretary of the southern region and chairman of the southern region war of resistance committee.
Earlier, the 13km East-West avenue is named after late PM Vo Van Kiet.
