The Vietnamese showbiz industry was warmed up in the beginning of the Lunar New Year by several new scandals involving famous performers.

Uyen Linh stricken by consecutive scandals in post-Tet 

Singer Uyen Linh, Vietnam Idol 2010, recently drew public attention once again; this time not for her singing talent, but for rumours over her love life. Linh, it was said to be slapped on her face for being a jealous lover.

An undisclosed source said the jealous person was the manager of singer Van Mai Huong, also the runner up of Vietnam Idol 2010.

Some people rumoured that it was a farce aimed at ruining Linh’s prestige, while others claimed it was a publicity stunt.

On February 5, Uyen Linh also caused public controversy when she suddenly agreed to join the second live show of a music programme, Bai Hat Yeu Thich. The controversy came when she initially refused, causing embarrassment for the organising board and audience displeasure.

After a notorious year, Mai Phuong Thuy, Miss Vietnam 2006, continued to keep her name in the tabloids with new scandals, exposing "hot" photos of her in a scanty ao dai.

Thuy claimed that the photos were meant, not only to show off her beauty, but also to showcase the traditional values embodied by the ao dai, many were not amused.

Also, in the beginning of the Lunar New Year, the famous female singer, Ho Ngoc Ha, was plagued by a new scandal. The notorious couple Ho Ngoc Ha and Quoc Cuong, or Cuong do la, were caught riding on a motorbike to take the air without wearing helmets after their family party.

The couple caused public controversy when their photos were widely spread on online forums. Many people said that, because of their fame, these images could shed a negative light on Vietnamese youth in terms of traffic rules.

After being criticised, the couple made an apology to the public and paid a fine.

Most of these scandals, whether deliberate or not, have not won the sympathy of the public.
