The Vietnamese International Film Festival’s organizers have just announced they are receiving movies for the festival next year.

A scene in “Bi, Don’t be afraid” by Phan Dang Di. The movie was showcased at the 2011 Vietnamese International Film Festival in America.
Themed “Flashback/Flash Forward,” the 2013 event welcomes entries including feature movies, documentaries, animations or music videos made by Vietnamese filmmakers and those of Vietnamese descent around the world. If creators are not Vietnamese, their movies must be related to Vietnam and its people and culture.
Dialogues in films must be in English or English-subtitled.
Application form can be downloaded at the festival’s website at www.VietFilmFest.com.
The 2013 Vietnamese International Film Festival will take place in April at University of California in Irvine, University of California in Los Angeles and Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at Edwards University Cinema 6 in Irvine.
Started in 2003, the festival has been held once every two years by two US-based non-profit organizations, the Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association, and the Vietnamese Language & Culture.
In 2011, it showcased more than 60 movies by Vietnamese filmmakers around the world at the same venue of 2013’s festival.
The list included several high profile productions made in Vietnam such as Canh dong bat tan (Floating Lives), Bay rong (Clash), Bi, dung so! (Bi, Don’t Be Afraid), Choi voi (Adrift) and Khi yeu dung quay dau lai (Don’t look back).
The other entries came from Vietnamese communities in Australia, Canada, France, German, the Philippines, the UK and the US.
