Indonesia invites VN for friendly match; Tam, Nhan win junior cycling event; U22 football team loses to S Korea; Ha Noi tops national fencing tourney
Indonesia invites VN for friendly match
The Football Association of Indonesia has invited Viet Nam to take part in two friendly matches against its national squad, but the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) has yet to accept the invitation.
The VFF says whether or not Viet Nam accept the invitation depends on the result of the draw of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2012 to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 11. Viet Nam will play against Indonesia if both teams are not drawn in the same group.
Viet Nam met Indonesia in last year's semi-final of the 26th Southeast Asian Games where they lost 2-0.
Tam, Nhan win junior cycling event
Ha Thanh Tam of An Giang and HMC City's Nguyen Huu Thanh Nhan won the title of U16 group and 17-18 categories at the 18th National Junior Cycling Championships in Vung Tau City in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on Tuesday.
The week-long event, which involved 150 cyclists from 10 teams nationwide, was organised by the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in co-ordination with the Viet Nam Motor-Bicycle Sports Federation.
U22 football team loses to S Korea
Viet Nam's U22 football team lost to South Korea 2-0 in their last match at the Asian U22 qualifying round in Myanmar on Tuesday.
With dominant skills and physical strength, South Korea controlled the match and scored two goals in the first half.
With four losses and one win, Viet Nam do not have enough points to qualify from Group G to the next round of the competition.
Thai Son Nam draw with Al Rayyan
Qatar champions Al Rayyan managed to book a berth in the AFC Futsal Club Championship semi-final after playing a fighting 2-2 draw with Group A rock-bottom side Thai Son Nam of Viet Nam on Tuesday.
With hosts Yarmouk SC playing a simultaneous kick-off match at Yarmouk Stadium, Al Rayyan had a nervy final 10 minutes but they held on to salvage a point to set up a semi-final clash with Group B winners Ardus of Uzbekistan.
Mohssein Amro and Ali Al Sabah were on target for Al Rayyan while the Vietnamese team finally found the back of the net in their third match of the competition with Phung Trong Luan and Le Quoc Nam both on target.
Only gaining one point with two losses and one draw, Viet Nam are out of the event.
