Vietnam orchestra adds Laos, Cambodia to tour

The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra is taking its act abroad, picking up Laos and Cambodia for the first time in its 15th annual Toyota Concert Tour.

Violinist Bui Cong Duy will join the orchestra
When performers take the stage later this month, singer Trinh Thanh Binh will showcase well-known Vietnamese songs, including Hoang Ha’s “Gap Nhau Tren Dinh Truong Son” (Meeting Each Other at the Top of Truong Son Mountains) and Hoang Viet’s “Tinh Ca” (Love Song).
With renowned violinist Bui Cong Duy, the orchestra will work in compositions by Laos and Cambodian musicians, as well as Beethoven, Johann Strauss II and Leroy Anderson.
Principal conductor and music director Tetsuji Honna will lead the performance, titled “Toyota Concert 2012 Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia” and organized by the orchestra along with the Toyota Vietnam Foundation.
First held in 1998, the tour aims to popularize symphony music across the country and now across Indochina.
The shows will take place in Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi from July 24 to August 8.
Proceeds from the concerts in Vietnam will be support young musicians around the country.
