The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the National Coaching Council have appointed Mai Duc Chung as the coach of the U23 Vietnam team.
Coach Mai Duc Chung.
Earlier, Mr. Chung was also selected as the coach of the U22 Vietnam team.
Chung will be responsible to train the U22 squad to prepare for the qualifier round of the U22 AFC Asian Cup 2013 and the U23 squad for the Southeast Asian Games 2013.
Mr. Chung is participating in a training course in Slovakia. The coach also wants to take his U22 team to Slovakia for training.
In related news, the VFF and the National Coaching Council have rejected the idea that the coach of the national football team will be allowed to train a local club.
There are four domestic coaches who are candidates for the post, including: Phan Thanh Hung, Le Huynh Duc, Nguyen Huu Thang and Dang Tran Chinh. However, if Vietnamese coaches are not permitted to work for both the national squad and a local club, it will be difficult for VFF and candidates to reach an agreement because these coaches are very important for FCs at the V-League.
Next week VFF will meet with these candidates and the new coach of the national team will be named in April.
This year the national football team will play six friendly matches and compete at the AFF Cup. The team was also invited to play in West Asia in June or July.
