The Vietnam Football Federation’s (VFF) Vice Chair Le Hung Dung recently disclosed that VFF Chair Nguyen Trong Hy wanted to step down.

VFF Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy.
The news is a blow for Vietnam’s football because it was released before the ASEAN Football Cup (AFF), the most important football event of the year. Moreover, Hy’s term will end in over one and a half year.
Hy used to say that he was very sad because Vietnam’s football did not go in the right way. As the top leader of VFF, Hy was under great pressure from various sides. Hy said he used to ask Dung to replace him for one year.
Actually, Dung is the best candidate for the VFF Chairmanship because he has money and is very enthusiastic with football. There is another candidate for the position; an official of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, but this man is inferior to Dung.
However, Hy’s wish cannot become true at this moment because Dung is very busy with his own business. Dung is the Chairman of Eximbank. Moreover, if Hy wants to resign, he has to wait for VFF Congress’ approval, under the FIFA’s rules. The next VFF Congress is scheduled this October.
According to latest news, Hy did not plan to step down: “Why do I have to resign when everything goes normally. Resignation is also not simple because it is decided by the Congress (VFF Congress) and resignation is only accepted when there is a good substitute,” Hy said.
