The Ha Long-Quang Ninh Tourism Week 2012 will be held from April 24 through May 2, announced by the authorities of Quang Ninh province.

The event will take place in the center of Ha Long city, the Bai Chay tourist site, Tuan Chau Island and neighboring areas, said Quang Ninh’s Vice Chair, Ms. Vu Thu Thuy.

The event will consist of cultural, sports, tourism and social activities, which will attract famous artists of Vietnam and many foreign art troupes.

The Ha Long – Quang Ninh Tourism Week 2012 will include 13 major programs: the competition for presenters and show hosts; folk and modern games; food festival; women’s international beach volleyball tournament; beach sepak-takraw contest; dance sport contest; exhibition of artworks about Ha Long bay; exhibition of ornamental trees and antiques; dancing festival, art and light show, etc.

The highlight of the event will be the Carnival Ha Long 2012, on the evening of May 1. The same day, representatives of the New7wonders organization will present the title World Natural Wonder to Ha Long Bay.

Mr. Ha Quang Long, director of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the event would draw more than 3,800 amateur and professional performers.

Ha Long Bay was recognized as a World Natural Heritage site by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994.

The Ha Long Carnival has become an annual event since 2007.
